I am not a New Year resolution maker. I don't know why, but making resolutions just doesn't appeal to me. However, I do love new starts. I love improving my life. I love jumping into a dream.
I have embarked on a new start recently. I'm not talking about the move from Blogger to WordPress, although that was a pretty big new start. I am talking about a new start in renewing my health.
Since the birth of Teeny, I have struggled with my blood pressure. I had preeclampsia at the end of my pregnancy with her. At my postpartum check, we found that my blood pressure was high– higher, in fact, than it had been during the pregnancy.
So for the last four, almost five, years I have tried to stick with a low fat, low sodium diet. My blood pressure is also better when I am consistently exercising. The problem is that sometime this past summer. I fell out of my exercise routine. I'm not certain of exactly why, but it was a very busy and hectic summer.
This fall, I gained about 12 pounds. Ugh. When I realized I had gained this much weight (around the holidays), I was afraid to think what my blood pressure may be again. Needless to say, I got extra vigilant about my fat and sodium intake, and I purposed to begin my exercise regimen when life got back into a normal routine.
I also found that my blood pressure is a little high again. I am not overweight according to all the weight charts, but I was always underweight in my high school and college years. I think my body just has a much lower set point where it likes to stay. Given that I do not want to take blood pressure medicine and I don't want to have a stroke, I must make some changes again.
I have purposed that my new start must include losing 20 to 25 pounds and 2 or 3 clothing sizes.
I'm telling you all this so that I will stay consistent. I'm also telling you this because I am sure that some of you are in the same place. Maybe we can even connect on Facebook and support one another in our journeys.
Two weeks into the New Year, life finally felt normal again. It was time to start T-Tapping again. Or not. I woke that fateful Monday morning extremely sick. I could. not. believe it. I was sick until that Friday night. The rest of the weekend I was still extremely tired.
Finally last Monday, I started T-Tapping again! If you have never heard of T-Tapp, you really must go learn about it. (Check out the Try Before You Buy section!) It is phenomenal. It is unlike any exercise you will ever do. Plus, the Basic Workout only takes 15 minutes! That's perfect for a busy mom, right?!
When you begin T-Tapping, it s suggested that you begin with at least four days of working out (only T-Tapp) in a row. It's called a bootcamp. This four-day bootcamp will make you detox. I know that sounds crazy– but it really works! If you need to lose weight or several clothing sizes, you can do a longer bootcamp before settling into T-Tapping every other day for a while.
I have never been able to do a bootcamp longer than 9 days. My knee always begins to hurt and swell. I think I have a little bit of arthritis or get tendinitis easily. So my plan this time was to do at least a four-day bootcamp. If my knee wasn't hurting yet, I would keep going. My knee would decided how long my bootcamp lasted. After that, I would go to every other day workouts.
I just finished day 8 yesterday! And my knee doesn't hurt yet. So I will keep going. If I could complete a 14-day bootcamp, I would be thrilled.
T-Tapp doesn't emphasize weight loss according to the scale, but rather loss in inches. You measure yourself before you begin and then check your measurements at weekly intervals to gauge your progress. "Before" pictures can also be helpful so that you can see how your body has changed. I'm really bummed that I didn't think to take "before" pictures. I may try to take pictures today. It was so motivating the last time!
I don't think I was supposed to measure myself during the bootcamp. It seems that I recall something about swelling during the bootcamp? But I measured on Monday anyway. I was pleasantly surprised!
I lost 3 5/8 inches and 2 pounds in one week! My blood pressure is also starting to come down.
Now my only hurdle is to not let life get in the way of my health.

Do you have a weight lose goal or a health goal that you're working toward right now?

It's not enough to make me rich, but it does help to keep this site running and helps my homeschool a little bit. Thank you!
